Walvis Bay, Namibia
Walvis Bay possesses the finest harbor on the Namibia coast, which led to its annexation by the British in 1878. It was not until 1994 that the now-Republic of South Africa returned Walvis Bay to Namibia. This port is your gateway to the vast Namib Desert, one of the oldest and harshly beautiful deserts on Earth, as well as to the historic German town of Swakopmund.
Salt Mines
Huge salt pans dot the drive from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund. Between 180,000 and 400,000 tons of salt are recovered here each year.

Watch weavers at work carding, spinning and weaving pure Karakul wool into beautiful carpets.
Swakopmund
